Connect Shopify to Tend
User guide · Updated October 3, 2026
Tend is an AI assistant you text or use at heytend.me. Once Shopify is connected, you can ask Tend in plain English to look up and update your products, orders, customers, inventory and discounts, work with collections, pages, themes and the files in your store, and follow fulfillments, returns and draft orders. Tend asks before it changes or sends anything in your Shopify account.
Set up
- Join the early-access list. Go to heytend.me/login and enter your mobile number. Tend is invite-only while in early access, so your number is added to our early-users list.
- Get approved. When we approve you, you receive a text message on that phone with a link that signs you in to Tend. The link works once and lasts 24 hours. From then on, you sign in with your phone number and a code we text you.
- Connect Shopify, in either of two ways:
- By text: text Tend “Connect my Shopify”. Tend replies with a secure link. Open it, sign in to Shopify on its own page, and click Allow. Tend carries on the conversation by itself once you are connected.
- On the web: sign in at heytend.me with the same phone number, open Accounts, choose Shopify and click Connect. Sign in to Shopify and click Allow.
- Check it is connected. heytend.me/integrations/shopify shows Connected, with a Disconnect button if you ever want to remove it.
- Ask Tend. By text or on the web, ask in plain English for what you need from Shopify. Tend asks you before it changes or sends anything.
On Shopify, the sign-in works a little differently: you log in to Shopify, choose the store to connect from the list it shows, and click Install on Shopify's own screen, which lists what Tend will be allowed to do. Tend never sees your Shopify password.
What you can ask Tend
- “What sold today, and what's low on stock?”
- “Show my last 10 orders.”
- “Find the customer jane@example.com and her orders.”
- “Change the price of the Linen Shirt to $48.”
- “Create a 15% discount code FALL15 that ends Sunday.”
- “Add 40 units of the Blue Mug at our main location.”
For anything that changes your account, such as creating or updating a product, a price, a discount, a customer or a page, changing inventory, or editing a theme, Tend tells you exactly what it is about to do and waits for your yes.
What your Shopify plan decides
Some of what Tend can reach depends on your Shopify plan and on what Shopify allows apps to read. On a store without the plan, Tend says what it can't reach.
- Products, orders, customers, inventory, discounts and pages: Any Shopify store
- Orders older than 60 days: Shopify gives apps the last 60 days of orders unless it has approved the app for all orders
- Names, emails, phone numbers and addresses on orders and customers: Shopify gives these to an app only once it has approved the app for protected customer data
- Editing theme files: Shopify allows this to an app only after it has approved the app for theme writes
What data moves between Shopify and Tend
- From Shopify to Tend: when you ask, Tend reads the Shopify data it needs to answer: your products, collections, orders, draft orders, customers, inventory and locations, discounts, fulfillments and returns, pages and navigation, files, themes, markets and reports.
- From Tend to Shopify: only the changes you approve, for example a new or updated product or price, a discount code, a customer, an inventory change, a fulfillment, or a page or theme edit.
- What Tend keeps: a log of each action it takes in Shopify, and only what is worth remembering about your work. It does not keep a copy of your Shopify data.
- Your sign-in: the access Shopify grants is held by Composio, the service Tend uses to connect accounts, not in Tend's database.
Read our Privacy Policy and Security page for details.
Permissions Tend asks for
Read and write access to your store's products, orders, draft orders, customers, inventory and locations, discounts, fulfillments and returns, files, online store pages, navigation and themes, markets, metaobjects and reports, so that Tend can answer and act on what you ask across your store. Shopify shows the full list on its own install screen, and nothing is granted until you click Install.
Disconnecting
Open heytend.me/integrations/shopify and click Disconnect, or click Disconnect next to Shopify under Accounts in Tend. Tend loses access at once; nothing in Shopify is changed or deleted. In Shopify itself, Settings → Apps and sales channels lists Tend, with Uninstall.
